Fleet Town Girls U15 Hurricanes become County Cup Champions by beating Sutton Utd on Penalties.
The match was very tight with opportunities at each end throughout the game. A misguided drop kick landed perfectly to an unmark Sutton Striker who immediately hit the ball over the Fleet Keeper, who managed to get a hand on it, but unfortunately it just crept in to make it 1-0 to Sutton half way through the 1st half.
Fleet regrouped and it wasn't long before they broke the Sutton defence with some great footwork from Sianna who managed to round the keeper to make it 1-1 going into the break.
The 2nd half was just as tense and Fleet were feeling the strain and showing some tired legs. A couple of changes were made and both Sommer and Ella were brought on. A shift in positions allowed Fleet to push high. Oilvia found herself inside the box and after slipping past the Sutton Defender, was brought down for a penalty. Lottie stepped up to make it 2-1 to Fleet.
Both teams still looked capable of winning this game. A reshuffle put Fleet in a more defensive formation but tiredness found them under pressure at the back. With 4 minutes remaining, Sutton managed to get a low cross from the right flank and their striker, desperately sticking out a toes, made it 2-2, which is how it finished.
Fortunately we had done some work on penalties only a couple of days before, so we were ready. Amelie volunteered the no. 1 position and a few tactical words paid off as she saved 2 out of Sutton's first 4 pens. Fleet's first 4 penalty takers (Lottie, Eva, Georgia and Mataya) all slotted home which meant we claimed the victory without having to take a final kick
